From McDonald's Snack Wraps to Jack-in-the-Box's Jack Wraps to the introduction of chicken wraps at Burger King and Wendy's, it's evident that chicken in a tortilla is a profitable fast food item.
While many customers are still perplexed as to why McDonald's got away of such a fan favorite, other chains have leaped at the chance to fill the hole. Even KFC got in on the act, introducing chicken wraps to the public in February 2023.
The original release of KFC's "Kentucky Fried Chicken Wraps" drew criticism from customers on TikTok, owing primarily to the wraps' small size and lack of substance.
Some say that because the chain charges only $5 for two wraps, the lesser size is understandable. The initial wraps were available in two varieties: classic and spicy slaw.
Both wraps have a crispy chicken tender wrapped in a flour tortilla, and while the Classic variety includes pickles and mayo, the Spicy variety has pickles, pickles, and coleslaw.
While KFC's fairly simple mac and cheese wrap, which debuted in November 2023, includes a chicken tender, mac and cheese, and a shredded cheese blend, the new menu options attempt to improve the roster with Spicy Mac & Cheese and Honey BBQ varieties.
The new Spicy Mac & Cheese Wrap from KFC is similar to the original but includes spicy mayo. Regular mayo and pickles are wrapped in a tortilla with the chicken tender and covered with honey BBQ sauce in the new Honey BBQ taste.
Customers on Reddit, however, appear to be concerned about the pricing rather than the new flavor selections. In a February 2023 discussion, one member who tried a KFC wrap wrote, "It tasted decent but such a ripoff in price, literally the size of the $1 McDonalds snackwrap they used to sell."
While some comments criticized inflation or "corporate greed," others proposed a solution, stating that the restaurant should sell two wraps for $3 based on size and taste.
Even TikTok food reviewers stated that the KFC wraps were smaller than expected, despite appearing to be on par with similar goods from other fast food companies.
Another Reddit discussion underlined that these foods are intended to be snacks and do not need to be the size of an entrée. Those who find the wraps too tiny can use the KFC app to request a free replacement.
