Two days after a disputed loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said he was moving on.
Lions offensive lineman Dan Skipper claimed Wednesday he was not reporting as an eligible receiver despite an NFL memo sent Tuesday indicating he was.
"So personnel, you signal in," Skipper told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. I wasn't like this. I wasn't doing that.
I signaled 12 jumbo with one arm up and one by my tummy and two fingers out. Every player at this level knows you signal in personnel."
Taylor Decker's 2-point conversion was nullified because he wasn't an eligible receiver, and the Lions fell 20-19 to the Cowboys. Two more efforts failed.
According to Tuesday's video memo, a player must "is clearly communicated to the referee by both a physical signal up and down his chest and to report to the referee his intention to report as an eligible receiver."
The video shows Skipper raising his hand and gesturing when reporting for the 2-point try late in the game, identical to how he reported in the first quarter.
In first quarter, Play 4, and I only did it once this week, so the many times is false, but we'll leave that. But you say, 'Sir, I am reporting as eligible.'"
