Roy Choi, chef-owner of Los Angeles-based Korean BBQ taco company Kogi BBQ, posted "the new drop" of a 32-ounce Kogi Sweet Garlic Teriyaki Sauce at Costco on Instagram on July 19.
He posted a photo of the bottles on bulk merchant shelves with Cholula and Tabasco. "The Secret Weapon," teriyaki sauce, is a savory-sweet sauce and marinade made of sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and roasted serrano chili pepper puree.
The Korean-American celebrity chef called the sauce "Korean Beef Jerky" and "Liquid Changjorrim Juice" (presumably referring to a typical Korean soy sauce-braised beef dish).
Kogi BBQ sweet garlic teriyaki sauce can marinate beef bulgogi, chicken and lettuce wraps, or anything else that needs a tasty soy-based sauce. Now at Costco.
Sweet garlic teriyaki sauce is "available for a limited time at Costco in L.A. and Hawaii." In Los Angeles, the sauce is sold in a 32-ounce bulk bottle for $6.89. Its future at the bulk shop is unknown.
Kogi BBQ's website sells a two-pack of 16-ounce bottles of sweet garlic teriyaki sauce for $14.99 to non-Californians. Walmart and Amazon sell the sauce too.
"Well I guess I'll renew that membership!" one Costco member exclaimed on Instagram.
Choi's website offers Korean BBQ sauce (original and sweet & spicy) and a creamy, spicy Kogi Boom Boom dipping sauce and spread.
