KFC to acquire 200 EG Group restaurants

KFC plans to buy over 200 franchisee and Asda sibling company shops. Fast food chain to take over UK and Irish sites with 7,800 employees.

Pizza Hut and Taco Bell owner Yum! Brands owns KFC, which has 218 restaurants, half of which are drive-through.

Blackburn-based EG Group, controlled by the same brothers who bought Asda in early 2021, owned them.

Yum's KFC business is strong! globe and the UK and Ireland is one of our strongest markets,” said KFC division CEO Sabir Sami.

Our talented local management team has helped us lead the UK and Ireland chicken market by launching 200 new restaurants in the previous five years.

We're pleased to add these restaurants to our equity portfolio, in a market where we can drive strong growth and make digital and strategic progress.

EG Group expects the deal to close next summer, helping it pay off borrowing. EG runs Starbucks, Greggs, Subway, and other franchise establishments.

We are proud to have been KFC's strategic partner in the UK and Ireland, helping the brand expand its footprint.
