We are shocked when the popular chip firm addressed the question: Why not make Dorito-flavored alcohol?
The firms stated in a news release that the drink was manufactured with real Doritos chips and their “essence through vacuum distillation.”
Vacuum distillation preserves Doritos' broad taste spectrum at lower temperatures than standard distillation procedures, the announcement added.
The statement quoted Empirical chef/distiller and CEO Lars Williams as saying, “Empirical is a ‘uncategorized’ spirits company, so it allows us the freedom to experiment with really interesting flavors .
The release describes the drink as having “Nacho Cheese, corn tostada, umami, (and) hint of acidity.”
The spirit opens with umami and tangy aromas of nacho cheese, moving to the deeper, corn-forward flavors of the chip to finish on a soft salty note.
Jenna, a queso lover, didn't even notice the Doritos flavor until the aftertaste. Her eyes shone. Should I say I like it? Jenna asked Hoda.
A bottle of the unusual drink will cost $65 next month. The 42% ABV spirit will be sold in select New York and California markets.
